Welcome to Middle School GEMS/GISE STEM Academy and General Summer Session!  Middle school students attending Summer Session 2019 will have the opportunity to select at least 4 classes from a menu of 20 engaging and interactive courses. These include integrated science and literacy classes, the arts, technology and sports options. All students will participate in Social Emotional learning curriculum. 

  • Who: GEMS/GISE students and Minneapolis Public School (MPS) students currently in grades K-8.
  • What: A summer program focused on STEM learning in a project-based and problem-based curriculum and instructional approach.  Pathways designed to meet the needs of GEMS/GISE students as well as General Summer Session students.
  • Where: 
    • GEMS/GISE and General Summer Session at Olson Middle School and Sanford Middle School: Grades 5-7 (2018-19 Grade)  9:15 AM - 3:45 PM
  • When: June 17th through July 25th; Monday through Thursday (Closed July 4th)
  • Transportation, breakfast, and lunch are provided.

 

Completing an online application (online Applications can be completed at the application links at the bottom of the page) ?

  • Step 2
    • Complete the fields and click "submit" at the bottom of the registration form. 
    • If you have an app-based email, such as gmail, yahoo, hotmail, etc., once you click submit you will get a message that your email is SAVED IN YOUR DRAFT FOLDER.  Go to drafts to send email.
    • Typed student and parent signatures accepted. 

 

Having problems with the online application?  

  • Step 1
    • After you have downloaded Acrobat Reader DC at the link above, download the application.  Complete the application and then "save as" your file's name to your computer.
    • Email the completed PDF to us at summersession@mpls.k12.mn.us .

       

The deadline for summer school applications, to have transportation EFFECTIVE THE 1ST DAY OF SUMMER SESSION, is April 15th to your school, or April 22nd to summersession@mpls.k12.mn.us.

The second deadline, for transportation EFFECTIVE THE 3RD DAY OF SUMMER SESSION, is May 31st. 

Any applications received after May 31st and through June 11th will have transportation EFFECTIVE JUNE 26TH (2nd week of summer session). 

Anything received after June 11th, you will need schedule transportation with the summer session school site transportation coordinator in the front office, during that first week of summer session.    

DO NOT MISS THESE IMPORTANT DEADLINES.  

 

You will also need the Continuous Learning Plan (with complete signatures) below if: 1)  You are enrolling General Summer Session or  2)  You are enrolling in GEMS/GISE STEM Academy, live in Minneapolis, and attend a charter school (private schools are not eligible for summer programs).
