Below is a summary of the academic K-8 summer programs offered by Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) Extended Learning Department for summer school.
K-8 registration is open through May 5th, 2017. MPS students who qualify to attend will recieve an invitation letter in March from their school.

K-7: This program is hosted at Cluster Sites around the city. The program focuses on Reading and Math, but also includes subjects such as Science, Technology, Engineering, Social Studies, Art, Music, Physical Education and other classes. Students who qualify are notified by invitation and receive transportation to their home cluster site. Students will receive breakfast and lunch. 8th Grade Fast Track Scholars: This program will be held at Edison High School and is for 8th graders invited to Summer Session, along with all 8th grade AVID students. Fast Track Scholars will have the opportunity to connect with future high school classmates, counselors, and teachers, as well as earn elective credits towards graduation. Courses include; Algebra, Literacy, Science, Engineering, Geography, Physical Education, Health, English Second Language, Website Design, Work Readiness, Robotics, Ceramics, Drawing, Guitar, Theater and more. GEMS/GISE/STEM: This program is for MPS Little GEMS/Junior GISE and GEMS/GISE students in grades K-7. The program focuses on STEM learning, in a project / problem based curriculum and instructional approach. Please note that this program application deadline date is March 2017. Cityview 7:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Waite Park 8:45 a.m. -3:15 p.m.
Northeast 8:45 a.m. - 3:15 p.m.
To ensure transportation is set-up for the first day, Summer Session applications should be returned to the school the student attends by May 5, 2017. Applications returned to your school office by the deadline will receive a bus postcard in the mail by June 2 with school and bus assignments.

Non MPS students can attend MPS summer session if they currently attend a Minneapolis charter school or are currently enrolled as a homeschool student. To be considered, please submit a completed Continous Learning Plan and a Registration Form along with the applicaiton. It should be faxed to 612.668.5305.
Please note: The charter school or homeschool must be within the city of Minneapolis.
